I’m a 4th year litigator in San Francisco and am currently seeking a new position. I see that there is a lot of contract work available for litigation associates at my level and higher. I even noticed that some law firms have begun their own contract attorney programs for associates seeking both law firm and in-house assignments. Is this the new normal for litigation? READ MORE >
I just graduated from law school and sat for the NY/NJ bars. I have an offer from a large firm for a non-associate position and am unsure as to whether it is a good career move or if I should temp instead while looking for an associate position at a small firm. The position is called ''corporate analyst'' and is mainly due diligence work in the M&A group of the firm.
I am interested in transitioning to a small or mid-size corporate firm in a few years and am concerned that this position will not make me marketable to such employers. For an out-of-work lawyer, the question may seem simple enough at first blush because temporary work is, among other things, a paying job. I suggest you give it a closer look before making a final decision. Being a temporary attorney can have a great effect on your legal career. It is more than simply serving as a way to make money until you find your next or first permanent position. READ MORE >
We often hear from attorneys with whom we are working that they are contemplating doing contract work while they look for permanent employment. Generally, these are attorneys who have worked for a while at law firms, but have been laid off or have relocated. They are thinking about doing contract work for one or more of the following reasons: READ MORE >
